I actually really enjoyed the Crimson Court, and I didn't do a single blood run because I waited until I had a bunch of level 2's before I opened the Court. If you do it the moment it becomes available, yes, you'll have to do some blood runs and probably struggle with a lot of infected heroes at least until you can take on the first boss.īut blood drops as loot in regular dungeons as well, right from the beginning, so as long as you keep it you can easily stockpile enough. This depends entirely on when you open the court. It's not a difficult mission by any means, but it can become tedious since it doesn't directly contribute to progress. You will not be able to have enough blood to take care of what will eventually become a roster nearly full of cursed heroes if you don't do this. Basically, it adds an extra few layers to the onion without entirely being more of the same-old-same. You'll get a whole new zone with its own story, aesthetic, mobs, music, bosses and features, not to mention a wealth of trinkets to choose from as a reward.
It merely expects you to learn and cope with some new mechanics, just like the core game did as a basis. Honestly, if you like the core game then there's no reason not to get Crimson Court, and its reputation for difficulty is entirely undeserved. There's really no point enduring the negative for the sake of it. However, if all you care about is the Flagellant and have no desire to enjoy the wonderful DLC to its fullest, then you may as well just enable the Flagellant and disable the rest on the menu screen. It just means the facilities you might pay for are slightly less effective at the time, and any half-decent player won't care.
You'll be accosted by a "Town Is Abuzz" event very regularly which overwrites a lot of basic Hamlet events and incurs a stress-penalty to most respite facilities, but it's not like this is a problem if you're decent at managing stress normally.
It's that the punishment applied for ignoring the court is barely of consequence.
